The Canadian Historical Arms Society, based in Edmonton, Alberta welcomes all individuals who have a shared interest in arms to join our organization.

Our society was founded in 1967 by a group of individuals interested in the collection, preservation, and application of all categories of arms, from bayonet and Samurai swords, antique and modern military arms and accoutrements to black powder muzzleloaders. Today CHAS undertakes a wide variety of activities throughout the year. In addition to hosting informative monthly meetings, publishing a member newsletter, holding an annual gun show and a variety of special events, and supporting a number of local charities, the club provides access to both indoor and outdoor ranges for its members to encourage active participation in shooting sports.

CHAS members are of diverse ages, backgrounds, and ethnicities. Club members include everyone from students, homemakers, farmers, and Armed Forces members to realtors, teachers, doctors, and accountants.

Today we are pleased to be seeing a noticeable resurgence of interest in firearms ownership, and recreational and competitive shooting. In fact, In 2007 we celebrated our 40th anniversary--and surpassed the 750-member mark for the first time.

We invite all members to attend our monthly meetings, and encourage everyone to get actively involved in the club.

About Us

History & Objectives:

We are a duly authorized society under the Alberta Societies Act.

The general objectives and purposes of the society are:

  • To encourage the safe handling of and respect for arms;
  • To further the knowledge of the members of the society as to the history of the arms and their restoration and maintenance;
  • To promote recreational and social activities among the members of the society;
  • To promote public awareness of the historical value of arms;
  • To ensure that the above objectives are met, the club provides a meeting place where members can pursue their interests, discuss the merits of firearms and to swap, trade or sell their collectibles.
